GIMP Curve Pack #1 Download

Now, I know I gave a little curve lesson just recently, but I have something a little more exciting than that. Some free curve presets for GIMP users!

If you don't know about GIMP, you should check it out. It's a really awesome program that does a lot of what photoshop can do, but it's FREE! (It can take a while to learn to use so please don't bombard me with questions about it. I'll be posting tutorials when I have time and in the meantime, there are lots of awesome tutorials on youtube and other websites! Just google what you're looking for).

Curve presets can be useful to almost any photo editor. Whether you're a beginner who doesn't know how to use curves yet or a professional who wants to save some time in the editing room, I'd say starting with curve presets is a pretty good choice.

Something good to know about presets though, is that they're just starting points and that no one preset will work for every photo. If you use these, feel free to mess with them before applying so that the settings are just right!

Here is a set of vintage-inspired presets to enhance your photos!

 Farmhouse
What it does: adds contrast - adds reds & golds - lightens blacks
Best uses: Nature photos, enhancing golden hour portraits

Greenhouse

Best uses: daytime portraits, plant photos

Lakehouse
What it does: lightens blacks - adds subtle contrast - subtly brightens blues & greens
Best uses: all-purpose

How to Install:

  • Download the presets from the links above.
  • move the files from your downloads folder to an easy-to-find folder. (You could also add them to your GIMP curves directory but that tends to be a challenge, especially on new macs).
  • Open GIMP, open a photo, and go to colors>curves. Click on the tiny triangle on the right of the curves widget and select "import settings from file".
  • find where you saved your downloaded preset, select it and click import.
  • optional but helpful: Once you've imported your preset, click the little plus sign next to the triangle and save the preset right to the widget drop down menu so that you don't have to search for it again in the future!
